Deep Diver Specialty

 

Diving past the Open Water recommended depth of 60’ can open up a huge variety of sites but it also presents some challenges and special considerations. In the Deep Diver specialty course you will learn how to plan and manage dives down to 130’ and what concepts will provide useful as you venture ever deeper.

Night Diver Specialty

 

Diving after dark is a magical time on the reef. Nocturnal creatures that hide during the day are out and about while the normal fish you're used to seeing hide to rest giving a familiar location an unfamiliar feel. Most people have some apprehension about diving at night before they've tried it and the PADI Night Diver specialty is designed to educate you about the differences between night and day diving and what special considerations you need to make to night dive confidently.

Requirements: Basic open water certification, 12 years of age or older

Search and Recovery Specialty

 

The phone rings and it's a friend of yours; they were out boating and he dropped his very expensive sunglasses in the water and remembered that you were a diver and wants you to come look for them.

Would you know where to start? The Search and Recovery Diver specialty course is designed to give you techniques and practice locating and recovering items from the sunglasses your friend lost, to boat engines, to boats! You will start out on the beach talking about search patterns and fine-tuning your navigation skills before you conduct four dives looking for a variety of lost items. This is a great way to practice the navigation you learned during your navigation dive of your advanced open water course in addition to learning how to rig and deploy lift bags and conduct methodical searches for items large and small.

Requirements: Advanced Open Water or basic open water and Underwater Navigator Specialty, 12 years old or older

Underwater Naturalist Specialty

Are you interested in learning about the amazing underwater world around you here in St. Thomas?  If so, this is the perfect class for you! 

Learn and identifiy a wide varaiety of local and native fish, hard corals, soft corals, sponges, and a number of other types of marine  wildlife.

This class is designed to help divers better understand what they are actually observing underwater, as well as help them correctly identifiy local flora and fauna.

Requirements: Basic open water certification, 10 years of age or older

Fish ID Specialty

 

“What was that fish?” is a common question heard after a dive. If you want to be the scuba diver with the answers, instead of the one asking the questions, then take the PADI Fish Identification Specialty course.

You’ll enjoy your dives even more when you recognize the creatures that you see and can identify the main fish families and their characteristics.

Requirements: Basic open water certification, 10 years of age or older

Underwater Navigator Specialty

 

There is no question that one of the things that inspires confidence in yourself and others is knowing where you are underwater! During the Underwater Navigator specialty course you will learn how to find your way around using natural and compass navigation and how to relocate sites or points of interest using natural features. You will enjoy your diving more than ever with the tools to return to the boat or shore without hesitation!

Wreck Diver Specialty

 

The underwater world is home to many sunken ships whether by fate and the weather or sunk as artificial reefs there are shipwrecks all over to be explored. The Wreck Diver specialty introduces you to the concepts and techniques that successful wreck divers worldwide use. To maximize your wreck diving experience, consider doing your Enriched Air (nitrox) course in conjunction with the Wreck Diver certification!

You've seen those divers,  they move effortlessly though the water and never seem to kick up any sand or touch anything and it doesn't look like they're doing anything! Diving isn't supposed to feel like work and maybe it's time to learn a few tricks to help you get closer to the goal of just being in the water. Proper weighting and trimming out your kit will move you a few steps closer, learning how to control your breathing is another step and then being able to practice will put the polish on your buoyancy skills.
